Depending on what you are towing, and what vehicle you have, the electrics are an important consideration

Which Electric Kit Do You Need

Single Socket

If you are towing a Small Trailer, Car Trailer, Motorcycle Trailer, Boat Trailer Etc, then you only need Single Socket Electrics

Single Socket Electrics

Double Socket

If you are Towing a Caravan, then you will need Double Electrics, the second socket provides power to the caravan lighting circuits, and keeps the fridge working while you are towing, plus it also charges the onboard battery in the caravan. Finally, if your caravan is fitted with reversing lights, then this socket provides the circuit

13 Pin Socket

This is the standard 13 pin system now being adopted in the U.K. It combines both sockets together, and provides for a solid splash proof connection and is compatible for trailers/Caravans purchased abroad

Complex Modern Systems

On most new vehicles the electronics now control bulb failure systems to advise of a light not working, adjustable suspension systems which detect the added weight of a trailer, the braking system also senses a trailer, reversing sensors are turned off when towing, stability control systems and traction control are adjusted to the load. They may also provide automatic fog cut-out. Because of this Towbar fitters must be trained to cope with the complex systems used, and when fitting the electric components must ensure the vehicle electronics are not comprimised.

Specific Kits

We advise the fitting of Specific electrics kits which plug into the vehicles wiring harness in the rear of the car, they include all the required relays etc, and are the same as the vehicle manufacturers use.

They are a higher cost option, but will not invalidate any manufacturers warranties, and will ensure the onboard systems work correctly (some vehicles also need a dealer software update)

Soon, all vehicles will require dedicated kits to be fitted.

Please Note: We do not fit these kits as standard - Please ask if you would like these fitted to your installation

We can also supply these kits to you if you wish to fit yourself, check our online shop pagesor further details
